Directly printing forms found in the natural world has been used for centuries by scientists, naturalists and artists to preserve the ephemeral beauty of nature. This two-day workshop explores the botanical contact printing process (eco-printing) to create images on paper with fresh and pressed plant materials provided by the instructor and collected by students.
DAY 1 November 16th, 2024 10am - 4pm: Students will explore eco friendly printing using leaves and botanicals from in and around your house, garden, nature walks, dog walks, etc. We will be working with hot plates and hot water baths outside in the parking lot so please wear appropriate attire.
- Please bring a lunch! There will be 30 minutes in between the workshop for lunchtime. Water bottles will be provided.
- ALSO BRING: Lots of leaves and plant material! Different shapes, sizes, textures, colors; some small pliable branches still attached to leaves are permissible. Paper will be prepared ahead of time by instructor for your books. This is the paper on which the leaves will leave their mark.
DAY 2 November 17th, 2024 12pm - 4pm: Using the dyed papers from the day before, participants will create four different book structures WITHOUT the need for adhesives. Please eat lunch ahead of time. Waters will be provided.
- Book Structures:
- Long stitch sewn book
- Multiple Signature Pamphlet
- PLEASE BRING: An x-acto knife or box cutter and pencil.
