Amate Multicolor

Made from the bark of the Jonote Tree in San Pueblita, Mexico, by a family of Otomi papermakers who have been making paper for three generations. Amate paper was on the brink of extinction until the mid 1800s when anthropologists took interest in revitalizing the practice. Now San Pueblito is the capital of Amate papermaking. Some works on Amate paper date back to 75 CE. Traditionally used for ancient codices during pre-contact times, Amate is now used for painting, drawing, bookbinding, boxmaking, and digital printing.
