Handmade Mayan Papers
Also known as Huun - the Mayan word for paper as well as the tree used in papermaking for hundreds of years. The ancient practice disappeared completely in Yucatan until 1985 when Project Huun of sustainable community development was initiated. This paper today is made by Maya-Yucatec artisans who combine Washi techniques with the ancient Mayan techniques.
Huun paper is 100% alfa-cellulose of select fibers of plants such as Sanseviera (Mother-in-law's Tongue) and Cattail. Both are renewable, the use of which does no damage to the environment.
It can be used for painting in oil, acrylic, water color, etc.
Works well in printing with ink injection, serigraphy, typography, and offset.
Can be used to cover boxes, books, picture frames, etc.
Both sides can go through ink-jet printing.
Comes with a smooth side and a textured side - created by fork-like instrument that spreads the pulp. Each sheet is formed on a stone or glass surface and placed in the sun to dry.
*Each sheet is unique, color shade may be lighter or darker than image.
