Description:

Curious about bookbinding but not sure where to start? This is the class for you! During this workshop, participants will create series of three simple sewn book structures: a pamphlet stitched booklet, a pocket book and a coptic binding with a paper cover.

Discussions will cover topics such as tools, materials, selecting paper and how to properly cut, fold and sew a book. All levels welcome!

Instructor:

Madeline Helland is a Los Angeles based bookbinder and illustrator. She graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, CA where she received her BA in art conservation and studio art, with a concentration in book arts and digital design. Under the moniker Aviatrix Press, she releases artist books and zines featuring found ephemera and her illustrations. When she’s not making books, Madeline works as the Museum Manager at the International Printing Museum and as a letterpress technician at Otis College of Art and Design’s Lab Press.
